@@IDENTITY script shows you how to use @@IDENTITY function to add a record to a table in your database and then retrieve the Identity field. Did you ever need to add a record to a table in your database and then retrieve the Identity or AutoNumber field of the record you just added? If you don't know about the built in SQL server system functions, it might be one of the hardest things to do and be sure that you are getting the right ID each time. But, MS Access and SQL Server both support using the @@IDENTITY function. Here's how it works, you add a record to a table with an INSERT or SELECT INTO statement, and then you call @@IDENTITY and it returns the ID number of the record you just added.
